SPACE TUNNEL (2016)

Space Tunnel is an immersive experience combining fun, beauty and interstellar travel. The ambience inside the tunnel is dynamic - it’s cosy and mind expanding all at once.

Anyone can captain the space ship through the different coloured galaxies which flow past on the lights. Then take a breather to draw rainbows across the sky. On the floor, beneath the canopy of lights, people can sit or lie to watch the show.

Some reactions…

“It was one of my most favorite art installations from any festival I’ve been to. Interactive to watch or to play, it was creative and beautiful, and so cool on so many levels.”

“The lights allowed me to develop patterns for thoughts and emotions which eventually allowed me to play with them. Which led to kaleidoscope of experiences.”

“It was like someone took my thoughts about operating LEDs and made them come true!”

Technical Information

There are a total of 5760 LEDs, arranged in 46 arches of light. At one end of the tunnel, there is a wooden bureau desk painted with constellations. This desk houses a touch screen which participants can use to control the lights simply by tapping buttons. With a footprint of 7.5m x 3m and sitting around 1.8m tall, the tunnel can take around 10-20 people at one time. The skeleton of the tunnel is a monkeyhut made of PVC piping. The LED strips are attached to shade cloth, which forms the outside of the tunnel. Inside, the strips are covered with thin black fabric, to diffuse the light.
